Acne Laser Treatment
Acne is a clinical problem that is increasingly becoming a major teenage problem (though people of other age groups may also get affected). Among the various kinds of treatments (according to the severity), acne laser treatment is a widely used method to tackle the problem of acne. The use of lasesr for acne treatment is becoming rather common. More research has been made for the prevention of acne by using laser technology. Laser is used to get either one of these effects: to stimulate oxygen formation in bacteria, thus killing them, to burn the sebaceous gland away that secretes oil, and to burn the follicle sac away out of which hair grows.
The following are some types of acne laser treatment. The first is the Smoothbeam laser treatment. This kind of treatment aids to increase the collagen growth, the kind that does not make the skin worse. It acts underneath the skin surface. Topical local anesthetic is used before the application of this kind of laser. First, a coolant is sprayed on the affected area before the laser to avoid the formation of red spots. The use of a sunscreen with SPF 30 is recommended after treatment. The next treatment plan is the Flexel Laser Treatment. This is the pioneer among the Non-Ablative resurfacing type laser treatment. It is best suited for treating severe form of acne, and can efficiently improve the texture of the skin. This treatment acts by removing old epidermal cells. It can even penetrate into the dermis, and produce exceptionally good results. The unaffected tissue is left untouched. The skin normally heals faster. The Vbeam laser and IPL is another kind of acne laser treatment. This treatment acts from the skin surface. It focuses on small blood cells and improves color. Light is passed through blood vessels and makes the acne less visible. There are several FDA approved companies, like the Candela Corp. for using cosmetic laser treatment of acne. But, studies have utilized only tiny sample sizes (100 subjects or less) for a period of six months or even less. These studies have demonstrated contradictory results. In addition, laser treatment is relatively new. So, it remains open to revision and experimentation, and treatment could be highly expensive. Several Smoothbeam laser machines had been recalled because of coolant failure, resulting in burn injuries. Because lasers and intensely pulsed light sources can give rise to thermal damage on the skin, there still are concerns over the use of these techniques. This is because the use of intense pulsed light or laser treatments for treating acne can cause hyper pigmented spots, and can even cause permanent skin dryness. Despite the many disadvantages of acne laser treatment, many people are adopting it. With further advancement made in technology, there is possibility that this means of treatment may improve, for the better. |
