Skin Disorders And Skin Diseases

The skin is the largest sense organ in the sense it covers the entire exposed area of the human body. Due to this, skin disorders and skin diseases are serious problems that affect many people increasingly.

There are various kinds of diseases of the skin, and they may be broadly classified under eight main groups.

The first type includes infections. Infections of the skin can be caused by a variety of microbes like bacteria, fungi, and others. This is more common as most of them are caused due to un-cleanliness. Some of these are Cellucitis, Pilonidal Cyst, Erithrasma, among many others.

The second group includes the Bulbous Disorders. They are actually blisters that may occur as a physical or chemical reaction. This is actually a mechanism of the body to defend itself as soon as the skin breaks. They are formed by body fluids collected around the wound. They heal fast if infection is avoided. Some examples of this are Pemphigus, and Dermatitis herpetiformis.

The third group is comprised of Dermatitis and Eczema. Dermatitis means skin inflammation. They are also called eczema. They are usually caused due to allergies to certain things. Some types of these are dyshidritic, nummular, urushiol-induced contact, seborrhoeic, atopic, and cercarial dermatitis.

Papulosquamous disorders are the fourth type of skin disorders. These are dermatoses that have some unique morphological features. They usually develop papules and show scaling. Plaques or patches are sometimes formed. Some examples are Psoriasis, Parapsoriasis, Lichen Planus, and Pityriasis rosea.

The fifth type includes Uricaria and Erythema. Uricaria are also allergic reactions that have red spots that are raised. They typically itch a great deal, or sting or burn. They may be responses to food, other allergens and even to exposure to cold or rubbing. Erythema is also eruption of red spots due to capillary congestion. It may also be a side effect of radio therapy.

Radiation related skin disorders form the next type. Solar radiation or other kinds of radiation, like X-Ray, Ultra violet rays, and others to which you may be exposed from time to time, are actually very harmful (though they may be used for treatment of other diseases). Some of them are sunburn, skin cancer, radiodermatitis, and solar urticaria.

The seventh type includes the disorders of the skin appendages. Skin appendages are the parts of the body that are either attached to the skin or works in close conjunction with the skin. These may include hair, nails, arrector pilli, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands. Some of these disorders are ophiasis, androgenic alopecia, and pseudopelade.

The last group is formed by other kinds of disorders. These may include vitiligo, freckles, leukoderma, pigmentation, and others.

The number of skin disorders and skin diseases that may affect skin is rather large. So, proper medical attention should always be sought if a skin infection persists.
